Who is it for?

This bell is for any cyclist who rides on shared-use paths, canal towpaths, or routes where pedestrians are present. A bell is the courteous and effective way to alert pedestrians — far better than shouting or using your voice. On the Longdendale Trail and Trans Pennine Trail near Hadfield, a bell is essential for safe, considerate riding. It’s also a legal requirement on new bikes sold in the UK, and required on many shared-use paths.

Will it fit my bike?

The Oxford Mini Ping fits handlebars with a diameter of 22.2mm (standard road and hybrid) or 25.4mm (older MTB and some hybrid bars). Most modern road, hybrid, and MTB handlebars fall within this range. It does not fit 31.8mm oversized MTB bars — check your handlebar diameter before ordering.

How to fit it

  1. Loosen the clamp bolt on the bell mount
  2. Slide the clamp onto the handlebar in your preferred position
  3. Position the bell so the lever is easily reachable with your thumb
  4. Tighten the clamp bolt securely — do not overtighten on carbon bars

Common questions

Is a bike bell a legal requirement in the UK?
A bell is required on new bikes sold in the UK under the Pedal Cycles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1983. It is not a legal requirement to have one fitted while riding on public roads, but it is required on many shared-use paths and cycle routes. On the Longdendale Trail and Trans Pennine Trail, a bell is strongly recommended for safe, considerate riding.

Will this fit my mountain bike?
It fits 22.2mm and 25.4mm bars. Many modern MTBs use 31.8mm oversized bars, which this bell does not fit. Check your handlebar diameter — it is usually printed on the bar or available in your bike’s specifications.

How loud is a brass bell compared to a plastic bell?
Brass bells produce a noticeably clearer, more resonant ring than plastic bells. The tone carries further and is more easily distinguished from background noise, making it more effective at alerting pedestrians on busy shared paths.

Can I fit this on drop handlebars?
Yes — provided the bar diameter at the fitting point is 22.2mm. On drop bars, fit the bell on the flat section near the stem where the bar is straight.
