Hadfield is one of the best-kept secrets for cycling in the Peak District. It's the last stop on the Glossop line from Manchester Piccadilly — just 50 minutes by train — and within minutes of the station you can be on traffic-free trails heading into the Longdendale Valley. No car, no hassle.

Getting to Hadfield
Hadfield is served by Northern Rail on the Glossop line from Manchester Piccadilly. Trains run regularly throughout the day and the journey takes approximately 50 minutes. The station is a short walk from Peak Bike Station and the start of the Longdendale Trail.

Cycling routes from Hadfield
Longdendale Trail
The most popular route from Hadfield. A traffic-free, largely flat trail running along the Longdendale Valley reservoirs through some of the most dramatic scenery in the High Peak. The surface is a mix of tarmac and compacted gravel — suitable for road bikes, hybrid bikes, and bike trailers throughout.

Trans Pennine Trail
The Longdendale Trail forms part of the Trans Pennine Trail — a long-distance route connecting the Irish Sea to the North Sea. From Hadfield you can head west towards Stockport and the Mersey Valley, or east towards Penistone and beyond. Suitable for confident cyclists with hybrid or mountain bikes.
Glossop town centre
A short, easy ride from Hadfield along quiet roads and paths. Glossop has cafes, a market town centre, and good facilities — a good destination for a shorter ride or a stop-off on a longer day out.
High Peak routes
More experienced cyclists can head into the High Peak from Hadfield, with access to moorland tracks, quiet lanes, and challenging climbs towards Bleaklow and the Snake Pass. These routes are best suited to mountain bikes and gravel bikes.
Family cycling from Hadfield
Hadfield is one of the best starting points for family cycling days out in the Peak District. The Longdendale Trail is traffic-free, largely flat, and well-surfaced — ideal for young children and bike trailers.
We hire Burley Bee double bike trailers from Peak Bike Station. Collect from our shop, and you'll be on the trail within minutes. We fit the hitch to your bike at collection — no experience needed.

Peak Bike Station — based in Hadfield
We're a cycling shop based on Station Road, Hadfield — a short walk from the station. We stock inner tubes, chain lubricants, puncture repair kits, brake pads, and other essentials for road, MTB, and hybrid bikes.
If you're heading out on the Longdendale Trail or into the High Peak, we're the last stop before the trails. Pick up a spare tube, top up your chain lube, or hire a trailer before you set off.
