Who is it for?

This degreaser is for any cyclist who cleans their own bike at home. If your chain is black with old lube and trail grime, or your cassette is clogged with debris, citrus degreaser is the correct starting point before applying fresh lubricant. Applying new lube over dirty old lube creates a grinding paste that accelerates chain and cassette wear — a clean drivetrain lasts significantly longer. It’s included in both our Summer and Winter Drivetrain Care Kits.

What can I use it on?

  • Chain — spray directly onto the chain while rotating the pedals backwards
  • Cassette and sprockets — spray and agitate with a sprocket brush for best results
  • Chainrings — spray and wipe or brush clean
  • Derailleurs — spray onto jockey wheels and derailleur body
  • Brake callipers — use carefully, avoiding brake pads and rotors

Why choose Weldtite Citrus Degreaser?

Citrus degreasers are the preferred choice for home bike mechanics because they are effective, biodegradable, and safe on all standard bike materials. Weldtite’s formula cuts through heavy drivetrain grime quickly without damaging rubber seals, alloy components, or carbon frames. The spray application makes it easy to target specific areas without waste. It’s the degreaser we use in our own workshop at Peak Bike Station.

How to use

  1. Apply the degreaser spray directly to the chain, cassette, and chainrings
  2. Allow to soak for 1–2 minutes to penetrate the grime
  3. Agitate with a brush — a sprocket brush is ideal for cassette cleaning
  4. Rinse thoroughly with water and allow to dry completely
  5. Apply fresh chain lubricant once the drivetrain is fully dry

Common questions

Do I need to degrease my chain before applying lube?
Yes — ideally every time you relube. Applying fresh lube over old, dirty lube creates a grinding paste that accelerates wear on your chain, cassette, and chainrings. A clean drivetrain lasts significantly longer and shifts more smoothly.

Is citrus degreaser safe on carbon frames?
Yes — Weldtite Citrus Degreaser is safe on carbon fibre. Avoid prolonged contact with carbon components and rinse thoroughly. Do not use on carbon brake pads or brake track surfaces.

Can I use this on disc brake rotors?
No — keep degreaser away from disc brake rotors and brake pads. Contamination will cause brake noise and reduced stopping power. Use a dedicated disc brake cleaner for rotors.

How often should I degrease my chain?
Every 2–3 lube applications, or whenever the chain is visibly dirty. For Peak District trail riding in wet conditions, more frequent cleaning is recommended as mud and grit accelerate drivetrain wear.

What brush should I use with this degreaser?
Our Weldtite Sprocket Brush is designed specifically for cassette and chainring cleaning and works perfectly with this degreaser.
