Who is it for?
TF2 Ultra Dry Chain Wax is the choice for road cyclists, gravel riders, and mountain bikers who ride predominantly in dry conditions. If you ride during summer months on dry trails or roads, a dry wax lube keeps your chain cleaner than a wet lube — it doesn’t attract dust and grit the way oil-based lubes can. It’s the lube included in our Summer Drivetrain Care Kit for exactly this reason.
Will it work on my bike?
TF2 Ultra Dry Chain Wax is compatible with all standard bicycle chains including 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12-speed drivetrains on road, MTB, hybrid, and gravel bikes. It is suitable for both Shimano and SRAM drivetrains. Not recommended for wet or muddy conditions — use TF2 All-Weather Chain Oil instead.

Why choose TF2 Ultra Dry?
Dry wax lubes are the preferred choice of road cyclists and summer trail riders because they keep the chain noticeably cleaner than wet lubes. The wax formula dries on the chain after application, leaving a protective coating that repels dust and grit rather than trapping it. The result is a quieter, cleaner drivetrain that requires less frequent cleaning. It’s the lube we recommend for summer Peak District riding when the trails are dry.
For wet weather or year-round riding, see our TF2 All-Weather Chain Oil. For the complete summer drivetrain care solution, see our Summer Drivetrain Care Kit.
How to apply
- Clean your chain first — use a degreaser to remove old lube and grime
- Allow the chain to dry completely before applying wax lube
- Apply one drop to each chain link while slowly rotating the pedals backwards
- Allow the wax to dry for 5–10 minutes before riding
- Wipe off any excess with a clean cloth
- Reapply every 100–150 miles, or when the chain starts to sound dry
Need to degrease first? See our Weldtite Citrus Degreaser Spray.
Common questions
What is the difference between dry wax lube and wet lube?
Dry wax lube (like TF2 Ultra Dry) dries on the chain after application, repelling dust and keeping the drivetrain cleaner in dry conditions. Wet lube (like TF2 All-Weather) stays wet on the chain, providing better protection in rain and mud but attracting more dirt in dry conditions. Choose dry wax for summer and dry conditions; wet lube for autumn, winter, and mixed conditions.
Can I use dry wax lube in wet weather?
No — dry wax lube washes off in rain and is not suitable for wet or muddy conditions. For wet weather riding, use our TF2 All-Weather Chain Oil instead.
Do I need to degrease before applying wax lube?
Yes — this is especially important with wax lube. Applying wax over old oil-based lube prevents it from bonding properly to the chain. Clean thoroughly with our Citrus Degreaser, allow to dry completely, then apply the wax.
How long does dry wax lube last?
Typically 100–150 miles in dry conditions. Reapply when the chain starts to sound dry or slightly squeaky. Avoid over-applying — excess wax can flake off and attract debris.
Is this the same lube included in the Summer Drivetrain Kit?
Yes — TF2 Ultra Dry Chain Wax is one of the three products in our Weldtite Summer Drivetrain Care Kit, alongside the Citrus Degreaser and TF2 Lithium Grease.
