Who is it for?
TF2 Lithium Grease is for cyclists who service their own bikes at home, and for anyone who wants to protect threaded components and bearings from corrosion and seizing. If you’ve ever struggled to remove a seatpost, pedals, or bottom bracket that has corroded into place, a thin layer of lithium grease on assembly is the simple preventative fix. It’s included in both our Summer and Winter Drivetrain Care Kits for this reason.
Where to use it on your bike
- Headset bearings — apply during headset service to prevent corrosion and rough steering
- Bottom bracket threads — apply to shell threads before fitting to prevent seizing
- Seatpost — thin layer on the post prevents it corroding into the frame
- Pedal threads — apply before fitting to prevent the pedals seizing in the crank
- Cable end caps and housing — small amount prevents corrosion at contact points
- Quick release skewers — light application keeps them operating smoothly

Why choose TF2 Lithium Grease?
Lithium grease is the correct lubricant for bicycle bearings and threaded components — chain oil and spray lubricants are not suitable substitutes for these applications. TF2 Lithium Grease is water-resistant, meaning it stays in place through wet rides and winter conditions where thinner lubricants wash away. The 40g tube is the right size for home mechanics — enough for multiple services without waste. It’s the grease we use in our own workshop at Peak Bike Station.
How to apply
- Clean the component thoroughly before applying grease
- Apply a thin, even layer to bearing surfaces or threads
- For seatposts: apply a thin smear around the post before inserting into the frame
- For pedal threads: apply to the thread before fitting — note left pedal has reverse thread
- Reassemble and wipe away any excess that squeezes out
- Reapply during annual service or whenever components are disassembled
Common questions
What is the difference between grease and chain lube?
Chain lube is a thin oil designed to penetrate chain links and reduce friction during pedalling. Grease is thicker and stays in place on bearings and threads — it is not suitable for chains. Using grease on a chain will attract dirt and cause rapid wear. Use TF2 Chain Oil for chains and TF2 Lithium Grease for bearings and threads.
Can I use this on my bottom bracket?
Yes — apply to the bottom bracket shell threads before fitting a threaded bottom bracket. For press-fit bottom brackets, apply a thin layer to the outer shell before pressing in.
My seatpost is stuck — will this help?
Lithium grease prevents seatposts from seizing in the first place, but won’t free one that is already stuck. If your seatpost is seized, bring the bike to Peak Bike Station in Hadfield and we can assess it in our workshop.
How much grease should I apply?
Less than you think. A thin, even layer is all that’s needed. Excess grease attracts dirt and can contaminate brake surfaces. Wipe away any squeeze-out after assembly.
Is this included in the drivetrain kits?
Yes — TF2 Lithium Grease is included in both the Summer Drivetrain Care Kit and the Winter Drivetrain Care Kit.
